Leeds City Region to Showcase Strengths at MIPIM
Five local authorities will be flying the flag for the Leeds City Region at the world's biggest property fair in Cannes, Marché International des Professionnels d’Immobilier (MIPIM) from 16th-19th March 2010. The decision to exhibit together follows the success of the partnership between Leeds and Bradford at MIPIM 2009 and the granting of forerunner status to the Leeds City Region by central government.

The cities of Leeds and Bradford, along with the districts of Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield, will be present at MIPIM under the banner ‘Leeds City Region: Growing and Going Together’, sharing an exhibition stand to promote the City Region on an international stage.

The combined strengths and assets of the Leeds City Region include an economy worth £48 billion per annum, a population approaching 3 million, a workforce of nearly 1.5 million, six universities and the largest financial professional services sector outside London. The five local authorities will be using their presence at MIPIM to promote the advantages and offer of the Leeds City Region as a location for business and investment, together with flagship projects such as the Leeds Arena and the new Hepworth Art Gallery in Wakefield.

The partners will also promote flagship development and commercial opportunities within the city region, including: the Leeds Arena and the redevelopment of the historic Tower Works site within Holbeck Urban Village; Bradford city centre developments such as the new 6 acre City Park and Southgate mixed use development; Wakefield City regeneration projects including the Merchant Gate, the Waterfront mixed use developments and the Trinity Walk retail development; ambitious plans for further leisure development at Huddersfield's award-winning Galpharm Stadium and plans for the redevelopment of Halifax town centre, to the thousands of investors and property professionals who flock to the high profile event every year.
Jean Dent, Director of City Development for Leeds City Council said: "The partnership between Leeds and Bradford at MIPIM 2009 was a great success and formed a basis for wider regional collaboration. Working with our City Region partners to promote major regeneration and investment projects in the Leeds City Region at MIPIM 2010, will help showcase our combined economic strengths and will provide us with a greater profile at this major event when competing with our European counterparts.”
