Radio Aire was launched on August 1st 1981 and sister station Magic 828 on July 17th 1990. Both stations operate from purpose-built studios on Burley Road, next to Yorkshire TV, and broadcast to the population of Leeds and the immediate surrounding area, which is 941,000 adults. Radio Aire and Magic 828 are part of the EMAP radio network, with stations in all major northern cities as well as in London. EMAP has recently acquired Scottish Radio Holdings, with stations in Scotland, Ireland, Bristol and Hampshire, making it the second largest radio division with a 23% share of total UK commercial listening. Radio Aire and Magic 828 work closely with key Leeds players ranging from Leeds City Council and the Yorkshire Evening Post to Leeds Rhinos and ASDA with the strategy of being the local stations serving the core Leeds area. The station also delivers local news and sport as well as comprehensive helicopter traffic and travel information from the Logiecopter, with reports every fifteen minutes in the Simon Logan Breakfast Show from 1500 feet above Leeds. Radio Aire's future lies in constantly growing and building partnerships keeping the station at the heart of all things important in the lives of Leeds people.
